  • Raistlin Majere … I suck at titles.

So today I’m going over to my friend Cassie’s for the day. She has an animated film of the first part of the original Dragonlance series she’s borrowing from her boyfriend. I did not know they even made this film.

… We’re both Raistlin geeks, I have been since middle school and she has been since … about last month. Should be interesting.

I’m also going to be taking the little book I’m turning into a self portrait (part of my honors capstone). I should scan some more pages of that sometime to share. I’ve made a lot of progress since the last time I scanned some. … still have a ways to go, though. The hand-sewing is a good thing to keep my hands busy while we watch the movie, though.

… Especially since I’m notorious for my short attention span.

It’s also the time of year again where I wake up with an itchy-swollen throat in the mornings. This does not necessarily mean that I am sick however … it’s just that I end up breathing through my mouth at night more often than not. Generally getting some fluids down relieves it, so this is how I know I’m not sick. Today there’s just a touch of swollen-ness left, but I’m not too worried since otherwise I feel fine. No fever, no chills, and no tiredness except the tiny bit from where I didn’t get enough sleep last night.

Well, we didn’t end up finishing the fabric piece, even though we did get to work on it after supper as planned. We’re probably at about 60-70% finished with it. And then once it’s sewn up I have some iron on transfers I have to get ready for it. Fun times.

(If you have no idea what I’m talking about, see the previous entry.)

Several people have already welcomed me over at the Quilting Bee, and I’ve even already had one trade request! I’ve also made one request of my own, so hopefully I will hear back about that soon. *crosses fingers*

There is a contest currently running at the site. I’ve been looking at it over the past week while waiting to see if my application would be accepted and was pleased that I was accepted in time to join.

I was able to finish the animation after supper while mom was taking a bath and sent it off in an email earlier today. It’s not up as a contest submission yet, but I’m going to post it here anyway.

  • Busy bee (no pun intended).

Today has been a very busy day for me. And it’s not even 5, yet!

I started off the day with working on an art piece that my mother is helping me with. It requires sewing a lot of different pieces together–sort of like a quilt. I’m horrible with sewing machines, though … which is why mom’s help is required XD; I don’t have the time to stitch it by hand or I would.

We stopped for a few hours after getting the main pieces put together, we’ll be attempting to assemble the entire thing after supper, though.

For another one of my pieces I need to build a fairly extensive wooden base in the shape of a spiral. I’ve recruited my dad for help with that, and so after working on the fabric piece we got some ground work done on the base. Mostly cutting some of the boards and getting the layout and dimensions down … turns out that we’re going to have to find some more aged oak from somewhere. Since I’m going to have a lot of gallery space to work with in the end I ended up really going large with this piece. … It should be fun to work on.

And after all that I also found out that I was accepted to the Quilting Bee, and so I got to scramble around to put up my quilt properly now that I’m no longer just an applicant!

But it’s been a fun day, and it’s nice to feel like you’ve got a lot done every once in awhile!

    Nothing much going on … except maybe the sleet outside. I’ve been procrastinating working on my homework (Bad!!) and have gotten swept up into Magistream … someone help me ;o;

I do have plans to knock out most of one of the three pieces I have left to work on for my honors capstone this weekend, though. Let’s hope I can stick to that plan … hahaha >_>; If I’m lucky I’ll find time to get started on part of another of the works too, I need my dad’s help for that one since I don’t quite trust myself using most of the tools I would need.

Today I have set before myself the task of getting the abstract written for my capstone project that is required for submission to NKU’s Research and Creativity week. The challenge is mostly that the word cap for it is 100 words, which doesn’t give me very much room to work at. I tend to be more wordy than concise by nature, so it should present a bit of a challenge for me. Also I have some email that I’ve put off for just about as long as I can, though in the long run I’m kind of glad I did, because after my meeting in Newport yesterday some of the things I was going to relay have changed a little bit.

Otherwise, I’ve been spending the time in the car on my way to the Greater Cincinnati Area thinking on the deeper questions in life. Metaphysical this time, and on a topic that I constantly revisit: the truths that lie in religion and spirituality …

(Warning, some religious views that are somewhat different in nature lay ahead, if you are part of any organized religion chances are they will run contrary to your own belief)

Just got Branded Ann at the library yesterday, so now to start reading it! It seems like it will be a very interesting read, though I admit I’m reading it more because I used to know the author through an online group I was on and through her old Sailor Moon fansite. I know that I enjoyed her writing then, so I thoroughly anticipate enjoying it now as well.

(Aaaaaand it doesn’t hurt that it’s a lesbian romance ;))

Getting ready to head down to Newport in a moment, I’m meeting with the artist who runs the frame shop/gallery that I’ll be doing a show at in April. I’m going to be looking at some of his work and selecting a few to be included in the show (this puts me up to seven artists total participating). All of the works combine words and images to create art that tells a story of some sort (the interpretation of story is looser for some pieces than for others).

I’m also slowly working on getting all of the content up for this blog/website. Then I can work on adding to the freebies section a bit more. I anticipate that there will be other pages later, as I’m starting to get into doing pixel art a bit more. I don’t really want to showcase the pixel art on Sakura Ink, so I figure putting it here works well enough.

I have come to a realization, I am a person who falls apart when there is nothing to do. I already knew that I feel most comfortable when I have something to work on, even if it’s just busy work to do in the hallway when waiting for the next class, but it still never really truly hit me. I’ve been looking at me the way I am now, buried in schoolwork and essentially hiding away in my room, and then looking at how I was when I did all kinds of activities (albeit online, so still hiding away in my room) in High School.

    I felt more alive then.

I’ve decided I’m going to try to do some more things again. It will be difficult at first, since I still have a lot of schoolwork right now in preparation for graduation (in May), but I can make the beginning. After graduation I’ll be occupied looking for a job, but I should be able to more progress. … Especially since the current job will probably make finding a job next to impossible. *sigh* But that is one of the things I’m trying not to think about.

I feel that I am on the edge of one of my periods where I end up finding myself again. I’ve been so burnt out in the past few years, and still am really, but I think I may be starting to finally see a spark alive in the middle of there somewhere. At the same time I really feel like I’m coming around in a circle back to some of the things I used to do in high school.

Does this mean that things were really best for me or am I just going around in circles? I don’t know. The best thing to do, I always find is just to go on. I’m not sure what I’ll come out of this like, but it’s best not to worry about it ahead of time.

I had intended for this to be a more serious blog to go alongside my LiveJournal, but I wonder if maybe I won’t finally graduate away from LiveJournal. It won’t be anytime really soon, though. I’ve been feeling a sense of loss over too many things in the past that are gone this past week, I’m not ready to burn any other bridges. I think that’s part of what’s bringing all this resurgence for pixel art back.

In other news . . . I somehow managed to cut myself on a tape dispenser. And not even on the serrated edge. Only me, I swear.

  • Negative space.

I always thought that I worked better in clutter, since I always seem to end up with cluttered space when I’m working. But when I started cleaning my room today I realized just how much better I feel now that the space has opened up again. I can feel the difference even in my head. I don’t know, I’ve always been aware of space.

… Unfortunately the way I work tends to create a mess. So the clutter is really a side effect of that.

It’s really amazing how such small things can affect the human psyche. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would sit in my room, feel the space, and consider it a negative thing! (Since I have everything along the walls of my room when it’s actually clean there is a large empty space in the middle of the floor. This works well for me.)
